I have decided I'd do something different today. I've been wanting to share this project with you for some time now. It's been about a year since I made this, and to be honest I absolutely love it! Paul found this skid for me, I had been searching for one forever. We went and scoped it out, I looked it over and really liked the rugged look about it. It was well seasoned and had just enough character. We brought It home and let it dry out, then Paul removed the two inside boards and cut off the nails that were sticking out.
I took it downstairs to sand it and stain it. I just put some plastic on the floor and away I went.
It took me some time to find just the right stain I liked. I decided to go darker with the stain. I was thinking of doing a white wash, but figured I would want white picture frames to place on it once it was finished. You can see I tested it a little bit on the inside panel, once it dried I made sure I really liked it.
Here it is, my skid shelf. I LOVE it!! I ended up buying some frames that have color to them. I really like the vintage blue color as well as the green shades. I wanted to add some color, just a pop. BUT as it turns out, I think I need to stick to white frames. SO that's the goal, the next few weeks I will slowly replace those frames with white ones. It'll just add a different look I think...hopefully I will like that. lol..
I actually debated with myself for a long time whether or not I would hang this. It was a bit risky as a decorative element in my home...but then I realized, its MY home...why should I care what others think?! SO I did it....and I have had many compliments on it, even some professional staff members from health care services have commented. Technically they aren't suppose to say anyting...but they did. I was happy they did...the one young lady said she went home the that night after visiting here and told her husband about my skid shelf idea. They are currently looking for a skid to make their own. Cool right? :)
Well my lovelies, i'm tired. It has been a crazy week. I am feeling the effects of it too. I have not been feeling well, extreme fatigue, cough, sore throat...yuck.
Braden's lift in his van has broke so that has caused a whole new level of frustration in the house. We have to get that fixed this week. On a happy note B has gone back to the gym in Hamilton. I am SO happy about that. They have actually made some changes to the gym, and I think these changes will make things a whole lot better. Kail update: She is doing great, started some classes on Thursday and she feels really good about them so far!
I am wishing each one of you a wonderful weekend, until tomorrow my friends good night and god bless~
